The Student Grant is Ireland’s main financial support scheme for third‑level students. It provides a maintenance grant, a fee grant, or both, depending on your household income and personal circumstances. It is available to new and continuing students once they meet residency, income, and course requirements.
Most students under 23 on 1 January of the year of application are assessed on their parents’/guardian’s income. You may be considered independent only if you have lived separately from your parents for at least 12 months before 1 January and have financially supported yourself during that time.
